    About the Business Unit

The Recruitment Services branch within People Safety Culture and Communication provides support to the department on all recruitment related matters, including attraction, selection, redeployment and other recruitment and retention practices. Working within the Department of Justice and Community Safety’s (the department) strategic objective of “building a high performing justice system”, Recruitment Services delivers consultative, progressive, innovative, fair and ethical recruitment solutions. Recruitment Services comprises the following specialist functions:

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Talent, Recruitment Services, the Assistant Manager ensures that target hires for identified and designated positions are achieved for various divisions of the department. This is achieved by partnering with hiring managers to understand their business and what is required for current and future success and then developing strategies to promote Aboriginal candidates to vacancies ensuring their experience with during the recruitment and selection process is both culturally appropriate and positive.
To perform this essential function, the Assistant Manager will hold current and detailed knowledge of the labour market, the economy and political landscape including an in-depth understanding of issues and barriers to employment for Aboriginal people and demonstrate a breadth of human resource capability.
You will be required to have demonstrated capability in the design, implementation and training of best practice recruitment processes across a range of vacancies and will undertake end-to-end recruitment activities ranging from sourcing, screening, short-listing, interviewing, reference checking, offer management, onboarding and outcome advice.
As the Assistant Manager, Aboriginal Recruitment you will also provide high-level specialist advice and expertise to stakeholders at all levels on Aboriginal cultural issues, employment related policies and legislation that impact on the Victorian Aboriginal community to ensure that the department achieves its objectives set out in the Aboriginal Employment Strategy.

Responsibilities:

SOME OF YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Manage end to end recruitment process for executive, senior, specialist, technical and complex vacancies including creating and reviewing position descriptions, developing and implementing attraction strategies, screening, shortlisting, interviewing, reference checking, offer negotiation and candidate feedback.
  • Provide specialist support and advice to Aboriginal candidates, ensuing their experience is both culturally appropriate and a positive experience.
  • Coordinate and maintain effective relationships with relevant, internal and external stakeholders, Aboriginal Justice unit and Aboriginal community organisations.
  • Initiate and build effective relationships with senior managers and stakeholders including relevant regional Aboriginal community organisations with a focus on understanding employment issues and finding solutions to remove barriers to achieving strategic objectives.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the labour market including the complexity of competing for talent within the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Subject matter expert in recruitment with demonstrated recruitment business partnering experience with a diverse stakeholder group to meet operational demand and deliver consistent and quality
    recruitment service in Aboriginal employment context.
