Construction Department
The Construction team is responsible for the management of delivering data centers from conception through commissioning, working with Sales, Operations, Development, and Engineering along the way. Construction also works closely with partner contractors to come up with a vertically integrated design and manages these partners to deliver the projects on schedule and budget. Many times, a role like this at other companies is purely oversight. One thing that distinguishes Vantage Data Centers is that our technical staff is given the responsibility and authority to directly drive the process. When compared to external resources, our internal team can align long-term operational sustainability with value engineering and cost metrics to deliver products aligned with corporate goals. This approach empowers each member of the team to drive high- impact decisions and even more impactful results.
Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a driven Assistant Manager, Project Delivery to facilitate the successful completion of Vantage construction projects on time and within budget under the guidance of the Manager, Project Delivery.
The role will be supporting the overall Delivery of construction and Capital expenditure works undertaken on the MEL1 Campus Expansion.
Collaboration and integration in the construction lifecycle process is integral to the role. Coordination and translation of requirements from Vantage’s internal subject matter experts ensures long term operational sustainability is preserved while driving towards optimized construction delivery. The Assistant Manager, Project Delivery will support the project delivery, along with external delivery parties (i.e., external PM’s, Quantity Surveyor, Architect and Engineers and consultants as required).

Essential Job Functions

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Project Delivery, this role will oversee and directly deliver Vantage construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Coordinate and direct construction workers and sub-contractors as appropriate.
  • Monitor Health and Safety to ensure compliance and adherence to guidance by personnel in build areas.
  • Monitor, review and report on QA/QC across all site works.

Duties

  • Assist in the dentification and production of scope of works for external engagements i.e. GC, design consultant, peer review, PM/QS, CxA etc.
  • Assist in overseeing contract execution, inclusive of all Scope of Work deliverables are met.
  • Work with the Manager, Project Delivery to supervise and coordinate project consultant and contractor’s delivery from design to construction phase.
  • Work with the project delivery team to manage the project timeline and program, work to identify and resolve any potential element of delay.
  • Ensure the site is operating under VDC and local authority EHS standard.
  • Inspect and report on any defects/snagging issues throughout the construction projects.
  • Collaborate with Operational Departments to ensure all Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, training and other handover activities are completed.
  • Work with the broader team to ensure all additional client works are priced and executed in line with both client and Vantage standards.
  • Attend client and main contractor meetings where directed, to discuss and review progress of projects in-depth and to review schedule deliverables.
  • Assist the commissioning team in commission of builds and future builds through Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and Integrated System Test (IST).
  • Ensure a consistent application of practices and standards adhering to programme governance arrangements, including assisting in budget controls, reporting, change control.
  • Contribute to the support of the Business Stakeholders and project delivery teams at initiation and throughout the lifecycle of programmes and projects, ensuring a common approach is adopted and sharing good practice.
  • Where directed, liaise with suppliers in the delivery of services. Assist the Manager, Project Delivery to ensure that risks, dependencies, cost and quality requirements are met by the suppliers at all times.
  • Responsible for pricing and managing small/minor works/projects as required.
  • Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging issues.
  • Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or similar field, or equivalent experience
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a management role required.
  • Complex and technical construction experience is required.
  • Data Center experience is preferred.
  • Experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and/or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction management is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools like MS Project or P6.
  • Project management experience preferred with PMP certification.
