The Assistant Person in Charge (APIC) assumes responsibility for directing and coordinating the management of the nursing home, maintaining a high standard of residential care and activities. Working alongside the Person in Charge (PIC), the APIC supports and assists in managing all staff to uphold the standards set by Sonas and statutory regulations. Additionally, the role involves establishing and nurturing relationships with residents built on mutual respect and equality.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the PIC in the absence of the Person in Charge, adhering to relevant health regulations and standards
  • Assisting the PIC in overseeing the organisation, management, and operations of the Nursing Home
  • Providing leadership and clinical supervision to staff to enhance standards and morale
  • Creating and maintaining a residential environment where residents feel supported and valued
  • Safeguarding residents from abuse or neglect and reporting concerns appropriately
  • Ensuring adequate staffing levels for high-quality care delivery and smooth operations
  • Serving as a resource to nursing staff in planning and implementing care
  • Availability for day, night, and weekend shifts as needed

Education & Qualifications:

  • Third Level Degree in Nursing
  • Registered with An Bord Altranais with an active PIN
  • Valid certifications in relevant areas such as infection control, manual handling, medication management, etc.
  • Post-registration qualification in healthcare management or equivalent (or willingness to undergo training)
  • Post-registration qualification in Gerontology or Dementia Care is desirable

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of post-registration nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Nursing Home setting
  • Desirable: Minimum 1 year of management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and support a team effectively
  • Clinical competence and dedication to delivering exceptional care to older individuals
