JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Visual Arts invites applications for an Assistant Professor in drawing, painting and 2D foundations beginning August 2024. The department seeks a dynamic individual to teach and oversee painting, drawing, and studio foundations and develop new courses within the Art Major. The successful candidate will support foundational and advanced art practices through a contemporary framework.
The Visual Arts Department moved to a new fine art building, Amos Hall in Fall 2023. The new space has expanded classrooms, dedicated exhibition spaces, and technical labs. The chosen candidates will have the opportunity to directly shape the future of this facility by working collaboratively with fine art faculty and administration.

EDUCATION:

REQUIRED: Master in Fine Arts (MFA) in Drawing/ Painting/ Printmaking or related field

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 or more years of university level teaching, 5 or more years preferred
  • Proven agenda of creative research and professional engagement
  • Experience of assessment of curriculum and student learning outcomes
  • Experience working with foundational art classes or general education courses
  • Communication skills consistent with effective teaching, mentoring and motivating Visual Arts majors from a broad range of cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
  • Technical competency in teaching foundational to advanced drawing
  • PREFERRED: Experience in course development
  • PREFERRED: Experience with art kits or ordering supplies
  • PREFERRED: Experience integrating traditional 2D media into interdisciplinary or experimental formats

Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will:

  • Teach or oversee: Drawing I, II; Painting I, II
  • Teach or oversee: Intro to 2D Design; Intro to Media & Color; Intro to Art (and other foundation courses, as needed)
  • Develop new courses to support growing studio art track
  • Teach other courses in department as needed
  • Work with the department chair to identify and hire adjuncts, as needed
  • Assess and revise curriculum within the studio art track
  • Contribute to departmental and university initiatives, advise students and recruit students to the Visual Arts program
