Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Faculty of Applied & Technical Studies invites applicants for a permanent full-time Assistant Professor to teach the Explore Trades Program within the School of Trades. The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory levels of a number of trades, including Automotive Service, Drafting, Electrical, Heavy Mechanical, Carpentry, Welding, and Plumbing & Piping.
The School is interested in applicants who share our passion for, and commitment to, excellence in teaching; who successfully integrate scholarship into their teaching; and who are experienced in the delivery of high-quality trades training in a variety of settings.
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a culture of excellence within the School of Trades and Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies as well as a strong commitment to Indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion is a must. Experience and interest in developing experiential learning opportunities as well as experience in teaching lectures in trades training are highly desirable.
The successful candidate should be actively involved in scholarly activities (which could include but is not confined to research, community outreach, curriculum development, etc.) and continue to contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives. A commitment to an ongoing program of professional development is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Certificate of Qualification and/or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Certificate in one or more of the following trades:
- Automotive Service
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Welding
- Other Trades
- Minimum five years’ experience working in industry
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Evidence of strong technical hands-on skills
- Provincial (BC) Instructor Diploma (either in progress or completed) will be considered an asset
- Strong communication, leadership, and service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Possesses excellent organizational skills
- Previous experience working with Indigenous students and communities will be considered an asset
- Previous experience working with high school aged students will be considered an asset
- Preference will be given to applicants with recent trade experience and proven teaching and/or supervisory experience
