Applications are welcomed from motivated and enthusiastic individuals for this exciting post working in a Neuropsychology Department within an acute hospital setting.
This role focuses on enhancing the psychological care of inpatients within the Neuropsychology service. This includes providing neuropsychological and psychological assessment as well as interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to an agreed plan. You will also assist with clinically related administration, conduct audits, collect statistics, and develop audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Your duties will involve working in a mainly acute hospital setting. You will work alongside a number of different professionals and within a multi-disciplinary team that includes medical staff, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nurses, with the support and supervision of the Lead Clinical Psychologist. This will involve undertaking assessments (including neuropsychological assessments), psychoeducation programs and interventions to address the emotional impact of physical ill-health and disability.
You will hold at least a 2:1 BPS-recognised psychology degree. You will ideally have experience and knowledge of working with clients with acquired brain injury. Experience of neuropsychological assessment would be an advantage.

Clinical
1. To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of patients applying psychological (including neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the client’s care
2. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care and goal plans involving the psychological assessment and intervention of patients and their families, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
3. To work with other colleagues to assess inpatients and review the psychologically focussed aspects of their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.
4. To assist in the development of a psychologically focused care to the benefit of all patients and their families, across all settings where care takes place.
5. To attend and contribute as appropriate to multi-disciplinary meetings.
Communication
6. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients under their care and to monitor therapy progress.
7. To communicate effectively with service users, carers, groups, colleagues, managers and workers from other agencies using a variety of means such as verbal, written and electronic communication (e.g. email, databases).
Analytical and Judgemental Skills/ Freedom to Act
8. To gather, analyse and report a limited range of psychological data under the supervision of a qualified psychologist and feedback this information in a sensitive manner to patients, their families and other professionals as necessary.
9. To work independently under the supervision of a qualified psychologist within professional and regulation guidelines and requirements, the policies of the Trusts/NHS framework, statutory rules and the law.
