What You’ll Be Doing
Capital Markets and Direct Financial Services provides integrated services and products aimed at serving investors as well as corporate and institutional clients globally. The Capital Markets business is a recognized leader in the industry specializing in investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and research. In addition, the Direct Financial Services arm provides alternate services and solutions such as direct investing, direct banking and unique international payment solutions. Collectively, these lines of business are achieving CIBC’s core purpose: to help make our clients’ ambitions a reality.
The incumbent will join the Capital Markets Business Management Team, with a focus on supporting the Direct Financial Services lines of business (Simplii, Direct Investing & Advice, Alternate Solutions Group). Reporting to the Director, you will support the overall business management mandate and act as a liaison between the businesses and the relevant stakeholders & infrastructure partners on key governance and controls matters. The incumbent will also assist in business, regulatory and compliance initiatives as requested.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Support the completion of Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) for new initiatives.
  • Coordinate investigation and reporting on incidents and errors (regulatory and operational).
  • Support Business Continuity Planning milestones.
  • Coordinate auditor/regulator requests.
  • Coordinate CIBC governance functions - e.g. user system access, shared folders, contract review, records management, business-managed technology, etc.
  • Work with Finance to support expense management and review.
  • Perform physical & logical security checks as well as clean desk checks.

Other Accountabilities

  • Assist business with updates to business policies & procedures, including process enhancements to increase operational efficiencies and to support regulatory & compliance requirements.
  • Assist business to monitor any managed contracts, including the completion of enterprise governance and risk assessment processes for new contracts
  • Assist business with CASL implementation and adherence.
  • Assist Capital Markets Centralized Governance & Controls Team as required – e.g. deficiency management, risk & controls self assessments, privacy incidents, related party attestations, etc.
  • Assist business with project (business and bank-wide) implementation, including new policy/procedures development and presentation materials
  • Track and report on strategic initiatives, as requested.
  • Represent the business on project working groups and stakeholder meetings as required.

Cross-Functional Relationship Building

This position interacts with partners inside and outside the work unit including:

  • Liaising on a regular basis with individuals in the business, Capital Markets CAO team and infrastructure partners (e.g. Technology, Global Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Enterprise Business Continuity Management, Audit, Finance).

Who You Are

  • You have an undergraduate degree in business or equivalent.
  • You can demonstrate experience/an understanding of the Direct Financial Services business lines, products and services. General knowledge of the operational, regulatory, and reputation risks associated with Direct Financial Services businesses and a comprehension of the policies, standards, processes and controls that need to be in place to mitigate these risks will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in compliance is an asset.
  • You can demonstrate experience and have a general understanding of operational risks, controls and governance functions. High degree of computer literacy and familiarity with business tools, e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio.
