We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Associate Director, CMB Infrastructure and Energy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in the infrastructure and/or energy sectors, including some of the sub-sectors listed above
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the latest developments in these sectors, and clear understanding of the areas where HSBC can grow
  • Experience of non-recourse structured finance; such as project finance, leveraged financed, acquisition finance, and/or asset finance
  • Experience in originating, structuring and executing complex transactions for clients, experience in some Global Banking and Markets products
  • Robust commercial lending experience, including risk assessment and understanding of cashflows
  • Demonstrable connectivity to key markets across S&SEA with a proven ability to work with colleagues and clients within the region
  • Ability to interact with business customers at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent time management, planning and organisation skills
  • Excellent range of communication skills, including written, verbal, and giving presentations

Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking an exceptional individual to help develop, drive and grow CMB’s Infrastructure & Energy Sector proposition and exposure with a specific focus on aligning to the HSBC Group sustainability targets supporting clients across the Sector. The role will be based in Singapore reporting to the Head of Corporate & Structured Finance in CMB. The role will support CMB clients across S&SEA and will involve frequent travel to develop client dialogue whilst also working closely with our RAF / Infra Finance colleagues to deliver Project Finance financing solutions to meet our customer needs across the Infrastructure and Energy sector.

The Infrastructure & Energy sector include a large number of subs-sectors including:

  • Renewable energy and supply chain – e.g. wind, solar, hydro, cables
  • Waste to energy and fuel projects – biofuels, sustainable fuels, plastics
  • Energy transition – batteries, storage, EVs, hydrogen, carbon capture
  • Power & Utilities – power/electricity, gas, water & waste
  • Transport Infra – ports, airports, rail, rolling stock, bus, ferry
  • Digital Infra – smart meters, telecoms, broadband, satellites, data centres
  • Hybrid Infra – e.g. car parks, service stations, EV charging infrastructure
  • Waste treatment and management firms

A large part of the sector growth is expected to come from the energy sector including renewable energy from wind, solar and waste, and other technologies and solutions including hydrogen, carbon capture, new fuels and batteries. Some of these are at their infancy and part of the role will be to help develop financing solutions to support their adoption.

In this role you will help lead our Sector proposition to all S&SEA CMB segments, including:

  • Leading on the origination and execution of project financing transactions for both existing and new clients, including acquisitions and refinancings of both projects and portfolios
  • The infrastructure & energy sector is unique in CMB in that the team works closely with RAF to arrange financings from ‘cradle-to-grave’ including origination, structuring, diligence, credit, documentation and completion, and this provides the opportunity to gain very broad financing experience in the team
  • Working in tandem with the GB infrastructure financing and other teams, to provide underwritten debt financing and enable linked DCM, ECM, hedging and advisory work ensuring we capture the available wallet opportunity whilst operate within Group appetite at all times
  • Leading dialogue with existing and new clients in the sector; and with infrastructure owners, often being private equity and/or infrastructure funds and managers
  • Originating transactions for financing and all other banking, advisory and markets opportunities
  • Driving client meetings at ‘C’ suite level to develop strategic dialogue and showcase credentials
  • Assisting with sector planning and development strategy, including sector strategies and capital deployment. Positioning HSBC at the front of mind for colleagues, clients and stakeholders in the sector
  • Taking responsibility for particular sub-segments – following market developments, regulatory updates and government initiatives across the sector and develop knowledge-sharing within the team
  • Offer, visibility and understanding of the key dynamics affecting each sector in terms of business opportunities, competitive and global issues
