Job Description
AECOM UK & Ireland Ground Engineering Practice has an Associate Director level vacancy in Dublin.
Our Ground Engineering Practice covers all elements of Ground Engineering serving a wide range of end markets including highways, rail, water and energy sectors.
We work for leading Irish, UK and international clients and have commissions of varying scale across all sectors, including TII Greenway and Highways schemes, Uisce Éireann Waste Water Projects, DfI (Northern Ireland) Highway schemes and Northern Ireland Water Projects..
We require ambitious Geotechnical Engineers, with the knowledge, experience and skills to take day to day responsibility for delivery of projects and tasks, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme. The position will suit those who can work with a high degree of independence and lead the input to projects from desk study and feasibility through ground investigation and interpretation to detailed design.
You will be joining an established team of Ground Engineers within the Scotland and Ireland region, will be based in the AECOM Dublin office and will work closely with colleagues across the UK & Ireland.
To be successful, candidates must have a proven track record in the delivery of ground engineering projects in the UK and Ireland and be fully conversant with the technical standards that apply.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc / MSc in Geology, Engineering Geology
  • MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills together with in-depth knowledge and experience in the application of current design codes and guidance documents in ground engineering, soil-structure interaction, geotechnical design and construction of shallow and piled foundations, earthworks, strengthened earthworks, ground treatment and retaining structures.
  • Chartered Geologist or Engineer status is required
  • Previous experience in a similar role with leadership responsibilities
  • Clean driving licence and be willing to travel throughout Ireland and, on occasion, within the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the team in project delivery, work winning, workload management, staff development, growth plans, maintaining high levels of client satisfaction and raising the company profile.
  • Possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment to communicate ground risks, solve engineering problems and provide efficient integrated design solutions, within defined timelines and budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents and make high quality confident presentations in-person or remotely. This includes a wide range of geotechnical documents, including desk studies, interpretative reports, specifications, construction drawings and design reports.
  • Extensive experience, knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology, including the ability to undertake and check geotechnical design, calculations and analyses.
  • Leading the development and enhancement of our ground engineering expertise.
  • A strong working knowledge of Irish and UK ground conditions and ground investigation techniques and practices.
  • You will preferably have extensive knowledge of Irish Rail, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Department for Infrastructure design and reporting processes, and those of other statutory agencies for the in Republic of Ireland and the UK.
