DESCRIPTION

Simpson College seeks candidates for the position of Associate Director of Multicultural & International Student Affairs. This position provides leadership for multicultural and international student affairs. Working primarily with students in developing, implementing, and supervising programs and initiatives that support multicultural, international, and marginalized students and, foster a better understanding and appreciation of individuals and cultural diversity and promote a campus climate that is inclusive and supportive of all its constituents. This position also serves as the proxy for the Vice President for DEI as needed.

Principal duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Developing, planning and implementing campus-wide diversity related resources, services and programs for multicultural, international and marginalized students to ensure student success and belonging.

  • Organizing programs for all students that deepens cultural awareness, understanding, and highlight cultural contributions.
  • Provide leadership for all multicultural student organizations, regarding event planning; advises international students and student organizations on staying viable and relevant to student needs.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate retention and graduation goals for multicultural, marginalized and international students.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and assist PDSO with all levels of immigration advising and processing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience developing, managing, and implementing campus/community programs; five (5) years preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills requiring above ordinary courtesy and tact are necessary to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Organizational skills to be able to work on several projects simultaneously and accomplish them all in a timely and professionally-acceptable manner.
  • Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be detail orientated and have excellent follow-through.
  • Mobility to travel across campus and off campus for related activities.
  • Experience with social media, website management, CRM, Word, Excel, Canvas, etc.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. legal permanent resident as mandated by federal regulations for all DSOs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working with historically minoritized and marginalized populations. Lived experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity working with international students disired, and knowledge of SEVIS systems, regulations, reporting requirements and F-1 VISA process.
  • Teaching/facilitation experience desired.
