Johnson & Johnson is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Associate Director candidate with demonstrated expertise in preclinical drug development, with a strong emphasis on drug development for retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (wet and dry/geographic atrophy), glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy/diabetic macular edema.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the pipeline growth and progression, provide GNG recommendations and drive prioritization, in collaboration with the VP, Retina Disease Discovery. As people leader he/she will be in charge of managing a team and implementing a Credo-based culture in managing performance, recruiting, retaining, and rewarding employees. The successful candidate will work closely with other cross-functional team supporting pre-clinical programs and play key roles in evaluating drug development strategy in retina.
EDUCATION:
- PhD or MD/PhD in Ophthalmology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or Neuroscience with at least 10 years of relevant experience in industry, post-graduate academics and/or clinical experience is required.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage own extensive experience in preclinical retinal drug development to develop, lead and guide team members to advance programs in the discovery pipeline.
- Drive effective decision-making and prioritization while considering impact to timeline, FTEs/budget, and risks.
- Lead, mentor, and train team members. Provide effective leadership including individual performance goal setting, managing the development of entire team and all individuals, recognize and reward employee contributions, planning and facilitating team activities, responsible for hiring and selecting new personnel and motivating members of the functional area.
- Proactively mitigate potential conflicts and rapidly resolve communication problems with internal partners, cross-functional teams and third-party collaborators.
- Collaborate with and lead/participate in cross-functional teams to facilitate IND-enabling, clinical Phase I/II-enabling activities.
- Communicate program progress and issues to senior management, to internal governance and approval committee as necessary, and at national and international conferences as appropriate.
