The Northwest Systems Laboratory organization within Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) is seeking an Associate Electrical Design and Analysis Engineer to join our Electrical Core Design team in Seattle, WA. The Northwest Systems Laboratory organization comprises the majority of systems testing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Military Derivatives. The organization supports all types of systems testing including: Flight Controls, Cabin Systems, Avionics, Flight Decks, Electrical, Mechanical, and Hydraulics Labs.
The Electrical Core Design Team of Engineers design large scale test systems that are essentially the bread boarded versions of the electronics that are installed on an airplane. The main goal of these systems is to verify the electrical design of the suite of electrical equipment that gets installed on an airplane before it ever gets built into an aircraft. Any of the design issues that are found and fixed in the lab translate to effective cost saving measures and help make our products safe.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 1+ years of experience in interdisciplinary engineering planning, design, development, integration, and validation and verification of avionics and/or electronics including hardware and software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in the use of computer aided design and simulation tools
  • Experience interacting with customers to coordinate testing requirements and schedule
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi, C#, and/or Visual Basic Script

TYPICAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Research customer design requirements and data using aircraft wiring diagrams, system schematics, and ICDs
  • Work with internally with electrical core team to complete drawing details and make the release of a complete package
  • Collaborate with shop personnel to build and install the work package
  • Translate detailed design requirements into cost effective implementations while meeting functional and performance requirements
  • Update functional test and calibration procedures as necessary
  • Coordinate with cab operations and software development personnel
  • Checkout work package and assist other engineers during the installation and checkout
  • Apply ingenuity and innovation, while working in accordance with established guidelines, to solve complex design problems and develop detailed hardware designs including, electrical & electronic assemblies, cabling & wiring interconnect, and power control & distribution
  • Participate in all phases of the hardware development lifecycle
    This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position will allow for some flexibility and will be determined and discussed between the selected candidate and hiring manager.
