LOCATION:

This position is location onsite at the Grand Rapids Service Center. Candidate must be within a comfortable daily commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those who qualify).
We are looking for: Associate Electrical Project Engineer
The Associate Electrical Project Engineer collaborates in a team, taking on lead or support roles to assist project managers and the engineering team in planning, designing, and executing electrical aspects of capital and maintenance projects for various generation facilities such as combustion turbines, hydro, pumped storage, solar, and wind facilities.
The Associate Electrical Project Engineer is accountable for adherence to design standards and that detailed designs meet all applicable code, permitting, compliance, and regulatory requirements. The Associate Electrical Project Engineer ensures that technical project work scope is properly coordinated between internal and external engineering services, vendors, fabricators, and contractors to meet project requirements.
The Associate Electrical Project Engineer assignments range from low to moderately complex electrical assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and ability. The assignments will have clear and specified objects and will require application of standard techniques, theory, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.
This position will be working in the Generation Design group. Generation Design provides engineering leadership for capital projects at Consumers Energy generation sites. The sites include solar, wind, hydro, coal, and gas generation. Project types can vary from new generation to plant modifications and maintenance. The department consists of a multidiscipline group of program engineers to support the capital projects.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:

  • Proficient in MS Office, with aptitude for learning new software
  • Understanding of power systems and instrumentation & controls
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and knowledge of industry codes and standards as they relate to design and construction
  • Knowledge in project management including safety leadership, schedule logic and implementation, procurement and construction means and methods
  • Knowledge/Experience with Lean principles and processes
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience as a Associate Electrical Project Engineer or as an electrical design engineer on projects.
  • Experience coordinating and developing contract documents, specifically engineering drawings and technical specifications for both consulting and construction services
  • Experience in procurement of engineered material, equipment, and professional services
  • Experience in reviewing designs to assure compliance with engineering design, applicable codes, constructability, and industry standards

In this role, you will:

  • Accountable for electrical engineering design for the entirety of project lifecycle for low to moderately complex projects
  • Develops and/or reviews electrical design drawings and specifications for power systems, instrumentation and control systems
  • Work independently for low complexity projects and for moderately complex assignments, it is expected the engineer would be mentored by a Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager
  • Collaborating with related engineering teams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; identifying and resolving integration/interface issues; determining and establishing design specifications and safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with a vast group of stakeholders to ensure all technical aspects of the project are completed and meet the safety, scope, quality, schedule, and budgetary objectives
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations
  • Develops statements of work for outside engineering firms for detail design for low to moderately complex projects, engineering studies or consulting
  • Manages outside engineering firms, sets schedule and deliverables
  • Develop statements of work for installation contractors for low to moderately complex capital construction projects
  • Perform field engineering and construction support as necessary for the duration of project execution, supporting the resolution of construction issues
  • Assist project management and project controls with the development of project contracting documentation, schedules, and budgets identifying risk and opportunities to the project
  • Fill applicable basic responsibilities of Project Manager which are delegated to the project engineer
  • Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
