Description:
- Clinical Provide specialist nursing support and advice to children and families with NMHD. Actively participate in the development of care pathway, patient information and treatment protocols which reflect and endorse latest research findings. Promote the availability of psychosocial support and advice for families, utilising a counselling framework recognising the need to refer on to other services where appropriate.
- Communication Effectively communicate with colleagues within the hospital and community, ensuring a team approach to care. Liaise with a wide spectrum of professionals and organisations, to promote positive working relationships. Help to maintain phone support for children and families affected by NMHD 3.
Analytical skills Uses specialist knowledge and skills to support children with NMHD Refers to other allied health professionals as required. 4. Planning and organising skills Work as part of a team. Manage a case load to ensure all children with a non -malignant haematological condition benefit from a named nurse 5.
Physical skills Ensure clinical skills are kept up to date demonstrating clinical competence. Will be required to walk, stand, sit and drive for several short periods, working between the home, school and hospital settings. 6. Responsibility for policy/service development Help co-ordinate the investigative process of users views of the service and ensure that any deficiencies of the service are identified and acted on.
Participate in quality monitoring in conjunction with the Trusts Clinical Audit Department and against national standards. Assist in the evaluation of effectiveness of care both in hospital and community. Contribute towards the development and implementation of clinical pathways working in partnership with the Trusts clinical pathway facilitator. 7.
Responsibility for human resources Assist Nurse Specialist in the development of MDT training and education programmes for all professionals, to promote a wider understanding of care for children with NMHD and their families. Arrange training, education and information for Primary Health Care Team and schools. Help to develop information packages for training purposes. 8.
Responsibility for information resources Maintain up to date clinical records in accordance with professional standards. Ensures has the necessary skills and knowledge to access , and benefit from IT systems. 9. Responsibility for research and development Actively participate in research related to clinical practice in the field of paediatric NMHD.
Contribute to research based nursing practice, standards, procedures and policies. Assist in the dissemination of information gained from research. Update personal knowledge and ability by attending and participating in appropriate and relevant seminars, study days and conferences.
