  • Based in the emerging Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct Mental Health Unit
  • Play a key role in the implementation of a new custodial forensic mental health

About your new team:
Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings (Parkville, Malmsbury and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.
Orygen and Youth Justice staff will work collaboratively to support young people voluntarily admitted to the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of something that hasn’t been done before!
Your new role:

This new key leadership position will form part of the new Mental Health Unit (MHU) at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct. The MHU staffing model will include Orygen staff working alongside Youth Justice staff to support young people who are admitted on a voluntary basis. In this role, you will also:

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality evidence-based nursing care to young people across 24 hours, 7 days a week roster and a range of speciality complex areas
  • Work closely with the NUM and assist with efficient operation of the clinical environment, workforce management and ensuring clinical standards to achieve a high quality of service delivery. Assume responsibilities in the absence of the NUM.
  • Primary point of contact for clinical issues and a resource for staff on each shift
  • Facilitate comprehensive consultation, liaison and negotiation with young people, families/carers, and various other members of a multidisciplinary team
  • Deliver group and individual psychosocial recovery-based care to young people.

About you:

  • Relevant registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
  • Comprehensive experience in the application of clinical and nursing practice in youth mental health including risk assessment, mental state assessment, psychoeducation, care coordination, and partnering with young people and their family/carers
  • Ensuring high standards of clinical practice through staff supervision, clinical review, training
  • and professional development
  • Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is highly desirable
