QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • Membership as a student in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Experience in the planning field demonstrating progressive responsibility, including hands-on experience in the creation, maintenance and management of information/data.
  • Working knowledge of the planning approvals process, especially in subdivision and condominium applications.
  • Familiarity with the Planning Act, other related legislation and policy and planning in a public sector environment.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.

Responsibilities:

POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, is responsible for uploading Planning Act applications and supporting information into the development tracking system; providing research, technical and information needs in support of planning delivery programs; preparing reports and letters on related matters; researching and undertaking data management activities; and preparing and analyzing mapping information.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the Branch’s ongoing technical and information requirements by creating, managing and maintaining technical information/data and mapping.
  • Creates, maintains and generates reports on planning and infrastructure related information within the development data base/tracking system, and includes performing data correction.
  • Reviews development submissions to ensure submission requirements are met, including accuracy, content and completeness and preliminary identification of Regional interests/issues and confirming appropriate application fee payment.
  • Assists in updating job aids based on best practices.
  • Reviews/provides comments on minor variance and consent applications.
  • Provides support to planning students with intake of Planning Act applications.
  • Drafts and/or provides input to the production of Committee reports and internal information concerning development activity including new communities status monitoring, development trend analysis, application response times and other customer service measures.
  • Assists in the preparation of planning reports to committees, general correspondence and notices, including circulation. Conducts research on a variety of planning and development issues to support branch initiatives and reports.
  • Responds to referred development services inquiries and questions, including coordinating response to general e-mail sent to the Branch/Division.
  • Contributes to projects either as a project resource or as a representative of the Branch/Division, as assigned.
