Description:

SDU Biotechnology (BIOTECH) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for an exciting position as Associate Professor in Biochemical Engineering. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing research and education within the field. The position is available from November 15, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We seek an enthusiastic individual who can contribute to our vibrant academic community and drive innovation in the following areas:

Research Focus Areas: (experience with 3-5 of the following areas is preferred

  • Biorefinery and Biofuel Process Development: Investigate sustainable methods for converting biomass into valuable products, including biofuels.
  • Application of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology in Power-to-X: Explore novel approaches to energy conversion, storage, and utilization.
  • Carbon Capture and Utilization: Address the pressing challenge of carbon emissions by developing efficient and environmentally friendly processes.
  • Industrial Fermentation Technology and Anaerobic Digestion: Investigate microbial processes for bioconversion and waste treatment.
  • Process Simulation and Techno-Economic Assessment: Utilize modeling and analysis to optimize process design and evaluate economic feasibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research Excellence: The successful candidate will initiate and lead important research projects aligned with the focus areas. Obtaining external funding and publishing high-impact research are essential.
  • Excellence in teaching is paramount. The candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate courses in fermentation and biochemical engineering.
  • Collaboration: Engage with industry partners, public sector organizations, and international collaborators to foster impactful research and knowledge exchange.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an assistant professor is preferred.
  • Expertise in Research and Teaching: Demonstrated research expertise in chemical and biochemical engineering is essential. Teaching experience in biochemical engineering, biotechnology, or related fields is highly valued. It is expected that the candidate has demonstrated ability to write grant applications and successfully achieve grants. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other researchers at the department.
  • Industry and International Collaboration: Experience collaborating with companies, industry, and international partners is advantageous.
