Description:

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Associate to join our Public Law & Regulatory Compliance team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years PAE within government or private practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice on statutory interpretation and administrative decision-making and public law compliance obligations;
  • Advising on and appearing in merits review and judicial review proceedings for various State Government regulators in various different areas;
  • Advising on subpoenas, such as appropriate redactions for privacy and Public Interest Immunity and Legal Professional Privilege claims;
  • Acting on behalf of the Secretary to the Department of Justice on matters such as judicial reviews, applications under the Serious Offenders Act and other matters;
  • Acting for the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the National Boards in disciplinary proceedings against registered health practitioners;
  • Delivering Continuing Professional Development and legal information presentations/workshops to clients;
  • Developing training programs and reference tools – paid for clients in making effective administrative decisions;
  • Attending and appearing in Directions hearings;
  • Mentoring junior lawyers and law graduates;
  • Marketing and business development activities to grow the Practice; and
  • Any other reasonable duties as directed by senior staff.
