ABOUT US

The Office of the Registrar supports students’ academic pursuits as well as Western’s strategic priorities by delivering an array of integrated services in a professional environment, while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of student information throughout the student lifecycle.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business or Finance
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration preferred
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) completed or in progress is preferred

Experience:

  • 7 years experience leading a team to implement operational and administrative procedures
  • Experience in strategic planning, implementation, and operationalization
  • Strong people management experience with direct accountability for staff recruitment, ongoing training and development, and performance management
  • Project management experience in a higher education institution is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence interacting with all levels of an organization.
  • Financial acumen, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Business acumen with an advanced understanding of quality standards relative to operational improvement, strategic planning and business growth.
  • Ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing administrative and financial processes.
  • Knowledge of organizational behaviour methodology and tools for identifying technological and structural changes that will optimize team performance, as well as align employee behaviour and deliverables with strategic goals.
  • Judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities.
  • Capacity to think and act at a strategic level and achieve operational requirements.
  • Advanced ability to effectively communicate, lead discussions and train others.
  • Strong customer service skills to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner, maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coach team members as well as support internal/external clients.
  • Ability to synthesize sizable amounts of detail/data.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite as well as analytical software.
  • Resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability, innovation, and initiative.
  • Demonstrates best practices in records maintenance and documentation.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Registrar Student Financial Services is responsible for the design and implementation of Western’s tuition billing and collections processes, as well as the delivery of Western’s Financial Aid program in accordance with Western’s strategy. Instruments included in the financial aid delivery include Ontario Student Assistance Program processing along with Out of Province student loans, bursary adjudication, scholarship and award eligibility and disbursement, access to Western’s Work-Study bursary program and financial aid counseling with students. The role will be key in the delivery of funding on the basis of equity, diversity and inclusion. The role ensures that processes adhere to University objectives, policies and relevant legislation to minimize risk, while pursuing opportunities for improvement of service delivery.
