Description:

The S&T Toxins group within the Operations Science & Technology - Biologics organization supports manufacturing, process validation, regulatory submission, and continuous improvement for late-stage and commercial manufacturing of biological toxins products in AbbVie. As an Associate Scientist II, you will primarily be responsible for performing a wide range of analytical testing methods and assisting with lab maintenance activities. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and a commitment to maintaining a well-functioning laboratory environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field) with typically 3 or more years of experience or Master’s Degree or equivalent education.
  • Proficiency in carrying out cell culture experiments, including media and buffer preparation, culture initiation, propagation, and cryopreservation of cells.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as ELISA, HPLC, qPCR, cell-based potency assays, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, and UV spectroscopy.
  • Strong understanding of good laboratory practices and safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulations within the pharmaceutical industry is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow protocols, aseptic technique. And instructions accurately.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with inventory and laboratory management systems (e.g., Maximo) is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform cell culture experiments following aseptic technique., including media and buffer preparation, culture initiation, propagation, and cryopreservation of cells to meet the demands of multiple concurrent projects that will require flexible work hours.
  • Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing using diverse methods, including cell-based potency assays ELISA, HPLC, qPCR, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, and UV spectroscopy.
  • Execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring functionality and escalating technical issues as needed.
  • Order and restock reagents, consumables, and supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
  • Keep meticulous records of laboratory activities, including test results, maintenance records in Maximo, and inventory management.
  • Place data in proper scientific context by consulting and citing relevant literature.
  • Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods, appropriately modify protocols and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members to prioritize and complete testing assignments within established timelines.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
