Description:

Johnson & Johnson’s Interventional Oncology (INTO) is recruiting for an Associate Scientist (In Vivo) to join the Discovery Biology team in Beerse, Belgium.

Interventional oncology, which is a cross-sector initiative, is charged by the Executive Committee of J&J to alter the course of lung cancer and improving survival by preventing, intercepting, and curing lung cancer.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team of scientists in exploratory immuno-oncology, playing a key role in the evaluation and understanding of new drug concepts in vitro and in vivo.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct methods of in vivo experimentation, including tumor implantation, dosing, proper handling of chemotherapeutics, radiotherapy treatment (SARRP), tumor measurement, health monitoring, and data collection and analyses.
  • Conduct in vitro human and ex vivo mouse immunology experiments to support ongoing immune-oncology portfolio including assays using cancer cell, myeloid and T-cell based co-cultures. Tumor cell biology analysis including analysis of PDX lines and tumor dissociated material.
  • Assist with design, execution, interpretation and reporting for in vivo syngeneic tumor model studies, to analyse efficacy of both intra-tumoral and systemic interventions.
  • Application of diverse expertise in cellular and molecular biology (e.g. cell/organoid culture, compound screening, FACS, ELISA, western blotting, qRT-PCR, cell transfections & transductions, viral productions).
  • Maintain detailed and organized experimental records and stay compliant on all relevant internal and external training requirements.
  • Support discovery biology team with experimental set-up, assay optimization, analyze data using appropriate statistical methods and preparing data for presentation-ready format.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences (such as Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Tumor Immunology) with a minimum of 6 months of laboratory-based experience in industry/biotech or an academic setting is preferred. OR a Master’s degree (M.S.) with relevant pharmaceutical or biotech industry/ lab/ academic experience is required.
  • Experienced with animal handling in oncology-relevant rodent models such as subcutaneous and orthotopic tumor implantation techniques and dosing, proper handling of therapeutics, tumor measurement, health monitoring, and data collection and analysis required.
  • Drug administration by subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, intravenous tail vein injections and oral gavage. Blood collection by tail vein, saphenous vein and cardiac puncture. Perform animal autopsy/dissection and microsurgery, perfusion and tissue collection.
  • Experience with the adherence to animal welfare and compliance regulations is required.
  • Experienced with cell culture of cancer or immune cells is preferred.
  • Experienced with bioluminescent imaging, flow cytometry, IHC, ELISA is preferred.
  • This position may require occasional weekend, evening, and holiday dosing/animal monitoring.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people.
  • Must have strong organizational, data management, and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to handle several projects simultaneously is preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Hiring will be contingent upon completion of laboratory animal research training courses accredited by the Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA category B or C) or similar foreign certification.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Graphpad Prism.
  • Learning agility and ability to work across projects highly desirable
