Zoetis discovers, develops, and manufactures a diverse portfolio of animal health medicines, biopharmaceuticals and vaccines designed to meet the real-world needs of veterinarians and livestock farmers and companion animal owners they support. Zoetis has the first monoclonal antibody therapy for treating atopic dermatitis in dogs. We are currently seeking to fill new positions to support our growing biopharmaceutical and vaccine portfolio.
Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD), Cambridge, UK is seeking a talented and experienced in vivo Associate Scientist or Senior Associate Scientist to assist in planning and completing studies which contribute towards the genome engineering of transgenic antibody discovery platforms and their use in therapeutic discovery projects.
This individual will work within the genome engineering team and partner with project teams. They will apply their knowledge and experience in animal science to accurately plan and deliver in vivo experiments ranging from immunisations through to pharmacokinetic and disease model studies. The studies will contribute towards transgenic platform development and it’s application in antibody discovery campaigns.
Knowledge of mouse genetics, transgenic technologies and rodent recovery surgery will enhance the candidate’s ability to contribute in this role.
Excellent communication, teamwork, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.
Due to the nature of the work, some experiments may occasionally require working outside of normal hours.

  • Planning and execution of in vivo studies under A(SP)A 1986
  • Maintain accurate records within ELN/LIMS to support in vivo studies.
  • Complete work in accordance with appropriate health and safety policy and legislation.
  • Effectively communicate experimental results to colleagues.
  • Support the creation of transgenic antibody discovery platforms and their use in antibody discovery programs.
  • Maintain an internal training and competency record.

Key Skills

Essential

  • Fully conversant in the Animal Scientific Procedures Act 1986, EU Directive 2010/63/EU and associated guidance documents.
  • Experienced personal license holder (modules A&B) under A(SP)A 1986.
  • Ability to work effectively individually or as part of a team

  • Flexibility - ability to learn and implement new laboratory techniques.

  • Troubleshooting ability within your own subject area.

  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skill.
  • Commitment to the implementation of the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine).

Desirable

  • Experience performing rodent recovery surgery.
  • Mouse embryology skills (Cryopreservation techniques, IVF etc…)
  • ESC microinjection experience.
  • Molecular biology laboratory skills

Training & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area or equivalent work experience.
  • Completed Home Office personal licensee training modules A-B

Experience
3 years holding a Personal License under the Animal Scientific Procedures Act (1986).
Travel Requirement - Travel to and from local facilities will be required
