POSITION SUMMARY
The Carlyle Group seeks to hire an Associate within the AlpInvest Secondaries & Portfolio Finance team to focus on the Portfolio Finance transactions. Associates are key members of the investment team working directly with senior investment professionals as part of nimble investment teams formed for each transaction. Associates are responsible for transaction execution, including due diligence, financial analysis and modelling, internal investment process, as well as ongoing portfolio monitoring and management.
The Secondary & Portfolio Finance Investments team focuses on acquiring and financing portfolios of private equity funds and companies and is a market leader in complex and structured opportunities requiring innovative solutions and structuring across both equity and credit (continuation funds, NAV lending, single asset transactions, management company financings etc.). The team has completed $30bn of Secondary & Portfolio Finance transactions across ten investment programs raised since its inception in early 2000s. The team is currently deploying AlpInvest Secondary Fund VIII and AlpInvest Portfolio Finance Fund II.
AlpInvest has been an early leader in the credit-orientated Portfolio Finance strategy and has to-date led $3.0bn+ of Portfolio Finance transactions spanning NAV loans to private equity funds, GP and management company financings, LP portfolio recapitalizations, among others. Our Portfolio Finance transactions involve a diversified pool of private equity or private credit assets held through fund structures. In sourcing and diligence of Portfolio Finance transactions, the investment team leverages AlpInvest platform advantages, including 300+ direct buyout sponsor relationships, proprietary information access on 20,000+ private equity owned businesses, as well as an integrated team approach across 100+ investment professionals globally.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an investment bank, private equity, private credit, or similar setting with exposure to buyout and credit transactions, modelling work and asset-level due diligence.
Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
- Review of a versatile range of Portfolio Finance investment opportunities
- Responsibility for due diligence processes including company-level analysis for businesses in diverse industries and geographies as well as assessment of various buyout sponsors / private equity funds
- Responsibility for financial modeling including:
- Building operating cases for portfolio companies and LBO cash flow modelling
- Cash flow modelling of private equity funds from a secondary perspective
- Transaction cash flow modelling, including a broad range of structures and securities (credit facilities, preferred equity, structured equity)
- Preparation of investment committee proposals
- Monitoring performance of investments including attending General Partner meetings
