What You’ll Be Doing
The Enterprise Strategy and Corporate Development groups (S&CD) play a key role in maximizing the value of CIBC’s portfolio of businesses through the identification, assessment and execution of strategic initiatives and transactions (e.g., organic growth initiatives, acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and joint ventures). S&CD works in collaboration with the bank’s business units and functional groups in order to identify opportunities for growth and to increase the value of CIBC’s businesses. As a member of the team, you will be focused on supporting the development and implementation of business strategies and initiatives and play an important role with the execution of transactions to enable CIBC to deliver on its overall strategic priorities and goals. You will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical, financial modelling, research, presentation preparation and project management support. The Corporate Development team also manages a portfolio of direct equity and fund investments.
Note: This role could be considered for either an Associate (Level 7) or Senior Associate (Level 8), depending on the experience of the candidate.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Financial Analysis - Prepare financial models, in-depth valuation, and other financial analysis to assess the feasibility of potential strategic opportunities and transactions, which may include discounted cash flow, comparable company and precedent transaction analysis.
  • Business Strategy – Support members of the S&CD team in the development of corporate and business strategies with supporting initiatives and plans to enable CIBC to deliver on its mandate, goals and objectives. Prepare presentations for internal clients that may include CIBC’s Executive Committee and its Board of Directors.
  • Research and Due Diligence – Perform research to evaluate potential opportunities and ensure S&CD has robust competitive intelligence and strong awareness of trends, industry developments, client needs and regulatory changes. Assist with due diligence and project management on transactions and strategic initiatives.

Who You Are

  • You have a degree in a finance related field (undergraduate degree in business, finance or accounting; professional designations, e.g. CPA, CFA).
  • You have relevant experience in corporate development, management consulting, investment banking, transaction services, advisory or valuation experiences. Excellent team/relationship building, communication, and strong organization skills are preferred coupled with strategic thinking/analytical capabilities. A year or more of relevant experience is preferred, but not required.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems, and making sense of information. You’re confident in your ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way.
  • You’re passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships, and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.
  • You look beyond the moment. You make decisions and take actions that will make a difference today and tomorrow. You proactively seek new opportunities to define what’s possible.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability.
