QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Practical experience of delivering CDM at a senior level along with current or previous design activities/ function/ involvement.
  • Design and review experience of solutions in the sector with an appreciation of various building regulation approved document parts.
  • Challenge designers under CDM and Assurance of design compliance under building regulation as part of the PD(BR) function.
  • Strategic policy, operational manuals, templates and process development under CDM & BSA including acting as technical advisor to internal and external clients.
  • An understanding of Fire principles, fire risk assessment, familiarisation of Part B / BS999
  • Ability to clearly communicate design philosophy and requirements with other team members
  • Previous relevant experience including leadership of the development and implementation of e-solutions.
  • Design related Degree in an Engineering, Architectural, Building surveying discipline or suitable alternative design qualification in the construction industry.
  • Chartered status preferred – MICE, MIMechE, RIBA, RICS, MCIOB, MCABE or suitable alternative membership of a recognised design body

Responsibilities:

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Our Sustainable Operations Team are looking for an Associate to take on a prominent position within the Design & Construction Safety team. This role will involve the provision of controlling technical inputs to major or complex projects and the coordination and management of teams of multi discipline architects, engineers and technicians. You will also provide support to Sustainable Operations Lead to maintain technical standards across the team’s projects.
The Design & Construction Safety team have an enviable reputation in the delivery of a variety of technical projects for clients such as the Royal London Asset Management, British Land, Canal & River Trust, Jaguar Land Rover, National Government, Local Authorities and major international financial institutions.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

This role will be focused on delivery of an exemplar Principal designer service under both the CDM regulation as well as the building safety Act. A strong experience of ‘general design’, and an understanding of building regulations (approved documents, British standards, technical notes for specific sectors such as hospitals or railways) with a rounded exposure to multiple sectors within the construction industry would be preferable, to allow a broader support to the Sustainable Operations team.
You will be an ambassador for our Design and Construction Safety consultants located in our Global Excellence Centres providing a focal point both in terms of development and wider exposure to business opportunities.

The duties of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Build relationships with clients to identify and realise business opportunities to promote and market all facets of the company’s services during client interfaces.
  • Liaison with clients to understand specific project requirements and to report on Technical and Commercial progress.
  • Managing the delivery of projects in accordance with company systems to meet Time, Quality, Budgetary and Health and Safety targets
  • Involvement with third party liaison and consents i.e. Environment Agency, planning authorities, health & safety executive, Network Rail and others
  • Provide professional leadership in aspects of safety discipline at a senior level, establishing and consolidating relationships with clients, taking ownership for the delivery of technical strategy of projects and supporting the Sustainable Operations Lead in the delivery of the region’s technical capability,
  • Perform independent technical review for complex and/or major projects.
  • Provision of competent advice, guidance, and support across a range of design & construction safety matters both internally and externally
  • Coach and mentor Design and Construction professionals evaluating technical competence of staff proposed for projects and support the recruitment process for new hires.
  • Take a leadership role with the project team, providing direction and leading by example where appropriate
  • Support the development of Arcadis capability in all aspects of CDM, BSA and build and maintain a professional reputation as an individual, and for Arcadis.
