Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Infrastructure Services, the Associate Telecommunications Engineer (Assoc. Telecom Engr.), in support of Infrastructure Services, performs at the full journeyperson professional engineer level a variety of consultative duties including engineering design, engineering studies/surveys, testing, and evaluation of telecommunications and network services. The Assoc. Telecom Engr. participates in the implementation of new network automation and orchestration strategies and tools and other improvements as defined in the network automation architecture roadmap.
The Assoc. Telecom Engr. acts as a subject matter expert in the most complex telecommunications and network technologies, protocols, services, hardware and software. The Assoc. Telecom Engr. is responsible for participating in the development and integration of cloud computing technologies and services; implementation of automation and orchestration in support of cloud computing; continued development and engineering of the Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV); design and engineering of fiber networks; and design and integration of security tools functions into the CDT network infrastructure.
The Assoc. Telecom Engr. works effectively with contractors, vendors, professional engineers, customers, Office of Technology Services (OTech) staff, and other stakeholders, as a technical engineering consultant. The Assoc. Telecom Engr.; encourages shared use of facilities between State agencies to achieve greater economy and efficiency; eliminate obsolescence; and promote availability and access to technology advances for statewide use. The Assoc. Telecom Engr. conducts engineering studies and surveys; provides technology expertise; and participates in the development of specifications and maintenance of network automation and orchestration products and services.

Working Conditions
