Do you want to work in an innovative team, which is shaping the way therapy services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth?
We pride ourselves on our close working relationships with our multi-disciplinary teams and you will join a very well led and cohesive team of committed Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists other therapy support staff, led by a Team Lead Physiotherapist.
In this role you will assist in the delivery of the Therapy Service to patients in Critical Care across Elective and Trauma Services settings. You will carry out delegated duties to ensure a patient centred service. You will supervise and instruct patients/clients in activities relating to their treatment programme
There are lots of training opportunities within PHU and external courses, and you will have regular supervision with a qualified member of staff. We encourage staff to take an active role in their continuing professional development.
Qualifications
Essential
- Maths & English GSCEs (grades 9-4 or A*-C) OR Functional skills level 2 in English & Maths.
- Care Certificate (or ability to complete within 3 months of starting).
Desirable
- Foundation degree, or equivalent Level 5 qualification, or 1st degree with relevance to exercise or caring for people.
- Achieved competences in the knowledge and understanding of clinical conditions and application of related therapy programmes including precautions/contra-indications and progression.
- Good basic anatomy & physiology knowledge.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Skilled in communication face-to-face, in writing and by telephone
- Ability to work safely under own initiative
- Self-motivated
- Able to use a computer & key software, eg word, excel
- Knowledge of the underpinning philosophy of rehabilitation
- An awareness of ones personal and professional limitations
- Commitment to personal development to maintain competency
- Approachable, sensitive to the needs of others
- Self-resilient
- Ability to recognise personal risk
- Awareness and understanding of confidentiality
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Minimum of two years experience as a therapy Assistant or technician working in related clinical field.
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Previous experience of working as either Physiotherapy/OT Assistant with related clinical area.
Desirable
- Involvement in informal supervision and management of people.
- Participation in manual handling of patients and equipment where necessary.
- Experience of liaising with other agencies.
