Boeing Canada Operations Ltd. is seeking an Associate Tooling Engineer (24-month Fixed Term), reporting to the Engineering Manager, working out of the Winnipeg, Manitoba, office.
The Associate Tooling Engineer will join the Boeing Winnipeg Tooling Engineering team which is responsible for managing the production tooling used in the fabrication and assembly of aircraft components.
The team coordinates with production operations, manufacturing engineering, tool design, and procurement management to determine the tooling requirements and coordinate the design, purchase, fabrication, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the tooling. The new team member will solve complex and unique problems related to safety, ergonomics, defect reduction, cost improvement, rate increases, and more, by looking beyond current practices and using innovative thinking to discover opportunities and solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of Engineering
- Must be registered, or eligible to be registered, with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM) as an E.I.T (Engineer in Training) or P. Eng. (Professional Engineer)
- 1+ years of experience in tooling engineering, or related position.
- Must be available to work evening shift on occasion.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding of controlled goods
- Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE):
- Production Planning experience is considered an asset.
- Composite/Aerospace manufacturing knowledge is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Catia V5 or equivalent CAD/CAM software
- Experience with aerospace materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, and aluminum
- Knowledge of pneumatics, motion control, automation, and other mechanical disciplines
- Experience in the use of machine shop equipment, fabrication, assembly and tooling practices
- Knowledge of conceptual development of machines, tools, and/or processes
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and systematic problem solving
- Strong communication and motivational skills with a diverse team in a dynamic work environment
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Responsibilities:
- Supports the evaluation of program and project requirements, develops moderately complex tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System.
- Participates in design reviews, collects design requirements, researches the application of new technology to support the build plan.
- Compiles and analyzes technical data to determine the effects on product engineering design and rate estimates for tooling.
- Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
- Supports the development and documentation of tooling inspection and usage instructions, preventative maintenance plans, and user training.
- Validates contractual performance milestones, maintains configuration control, conducts reviews, prepares plans for productions readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares.
- Conducts training for Production and Maintenance personnel.
- Develops and implements moderately complex solutions and maintains configuration of hardware, software and documentation.
- Supports studies for disposition of assets.
