JOB SUMMARY
Working collaboratively with deans and faculty, the Associate Vice President for Research is responsible for providing leadership for building funding capacity and support for research, scholarship, and creative activities appropriate to the mission of the University. The AVR oversees the development of external and internal grant and contracts, ensures integrity of administration and legal compliance, and advocates for efficient pre- and post-award processes for college deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff. The AVR actively engages in ongoing efforts with other units on campus to develop and improve processes, practices, procedures, and communication related to securing and managing funded research and other forms of creative scholarship.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Ten (10) or more years of experience

- Earned Doctorate

Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Vice President for Research (VPR), the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Research supervises research development and pre-award services to foster and coordinate the submission of timely, competitive proposals for sponsored research
- Member of the Senior Leadership Team, Research Council (Associate Deans plus)
- Direct Reports - Director of Sponsored Programs, Research Faculty Fellow (for research development activities), Data Analyst
- Represents the Office of Research on the Department Chair’s Council
- Ensuring compliance of sponsored program submissions (in conjunction with Research Integrity); coordinating the delivery of research development programs and trainings, managing internal award competitions and limited submission proposals
- Supervises the coordination with program officers for ‘special funding’ awards (i.e. Congressionally Directed Funding, Strategic Partnerships, One time funds)
- Conducts training sessions for Research Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and other academic leaders
- Supports workflow optimization and research management software integrations
- Coordinates data queries, special projects and reports as assigned by the VPR
