Description:

Davidson College is a recognized leader in undergraduate research, scholarship and creative work across our many academic disciplines. In the last five years, 55% of faculty grant applications have received external funding (including resubmissions), for a total of more than $11 million in external funding, including grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Our goal is to continue increasing the number of successful applications and total funding. Additionally, approximately 12% of students have participated in externally and internally funded undergraduate research over the past three years. The college distributes nearly $1 million to support student research projects each year. We are seeking a colleague who can build upon a solid foundation and support continuing efforts to increase the number of our faculty and students engaging in cutting-edge research.
The Assistant Dean for Research Development & Director of Sponsored Programs (ADRD/DSP) is responsible for the administration and oversight of externally- and internally-funded projects that support faculty development activities and the integration of research and scholarship into the College’s academic program.
The ADRD/DSP leads the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and supervises the Assistant Director/Pre-Award Manager and the Assistant Director/Post-Award Manager. The ADRD/DSP reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty, is a member of the Faculty Development Team in Academic Affairs, and works closely with the Associate Director of Academic Administration for the implementation of internally-funded projects. The ADRD/DSP also partners with the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations for the implementation of institutional grants. OSP collaborates with faculty and staff on managing student research funding initiatives and maintaining the vitality of the Davidson summer research community.
The ADRD/DSP is the College’s Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) with delegated signature authority for externally sponsored projects and material transfer agreements (MTAs).
The ADRD/DSP is also the College’s Research Integrity Officer (RIO) with responsibility for promoting and ensuring ethical conduct of research across the institution.
