The Assistant Manager Engineering leads the professional development for a T eam of engineers, oversees the Maintenance program , and provides outstanding Customer Service when collaborating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and regulatory agencies . The Assistant Manager Engineering is a resourceful problem-solver who is ready to shape the future of aerospace engineering at Southwest Airlines.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities
Leads a staff of engineers and provides oversight and coordination of all work activities during designated shift
Actively engages reporting staff of engineers through performance reviews and professional development for career growth
Oversees projects to ensure success and timeliness of deliverables (e.g. scheduling, technical risk oversight, deliverables tracking)
Acts as a mentor/leader of the assigned Engineers, including responsibility for the training of engineers
Oversees reliability improvements through research, root-cause analysis, and implementation through corrective action plans
Oversees activities related to OEM products, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder products, Regulatory agencies, etc.
Team focal point for Maintenance Program requests and prioritization to ensure timely incorporation of Company projects and initiatives
Provides positive Customer Service and maintains positive working relationships with all Internal and External Customers by working in a cooperative manner
Performs other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager and can assume the duties of the Engineering Manager as delegated
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work well with others as part of a team, as well as lead others without direct positional authority
Ability to communicate in a flexible and effective manner
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and initiative to achieve consistent results
Ability to deliver feedback and coaching to develop and retain talent
Ability to demonstrate organizational proficiency
Ability to be conscientious and detail oriented, with an ability to work well under pressure and within scheduled timelines Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience

FULLY FUNCTIONING BROAD KNOWLEDGE IN:

Airline/OEM/MRO Engineering
Directly or indirectly leading Employees
Licensing/Certification
Must be able to obtain a SIDA (Secured Identification Display Area) badge and meet all local airport requirements
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from desk/office area for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Ability to access areas of the aircraft where inspections, alterations, and repairs are being conducted
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Up to 10% travel based on departmental needs
