Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all claims against the Army resulting from property damage, injury or death where the claim arises on Fort Campbell or in any portion of the Fort Campbell claims region as stated above.
  • Works claims for medical malpractice- at inpatient hospitals, particularly hospitals with obstetric, psychiatric, and orthopedic service, commonly reach $1 million or more.
  • Travels to accident and incident sites and various other locations to discover evidence, interview witnesses and claimants, and personally negotiate settlements with civilian attorneys in the private sector.
  • Recommend to the Staff Judge Advocate for action by U.S. Army Claims Service for final and irrevocable settlements of claims.
  • Incumbent works independently in investigating cases, researching and interpreting precedents, and developing conclusions.
  • Responsible for all claims matters which require coordination with U.S. Amy Claims Service has as a matter of policy required coordination prior to payment or final and irrevocable settlement.
  • Provides legal advice in the area of risk management to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. Serves as a member of the Hospital’s risk management committee.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the work of the claims branch. Makes distribution of work assignments among claims personnel to ensure effective and expeditious accomplishment of work.
  • Ensures recovery actions are initiated on all applicable claims and negotiates for settlement of recoveries with carriers and attorneys.
  • Receives requests for reconsideration from claimants and independently prepares recommendations for U.S. Army Claims Services (the payment authority) for action on reconsideration requests.
