SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for carrying out brokerage audits.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Conducts financial and non-financial audits and investigations of real estate brokerages.
- Reviews trust and general ledgers, monthly trust and general account bank reconciliations, monthly trust liabilities to asset reconciliations.
- Reviews monthly owner’s statements, monthly financial packages, and any other relevant documentation required to ensure compliance and appropriate bookkeeping.
- Reviews Accountant’s Reports and Financial Statements for non-compliance to determine the number and severity of exceptions and assign audit priority.
- Reviews trading services, rental property management, and strata documents.
- Prepares comprehensive reports that include evidence of findings, results, and recommendations.
- Participates in high priority/high risk investigative related projects.
- Responds to enquiries from brokerage staff, external accountants, and other stakeholders.
- Contributes to the team’s development of internal work practices (e.g., policies, procedures, and tools).
- Provides orientation and training to internal and/or external stakeholders within area of responsibility.
- Contributes to, participates in, and supports organizational business transformation initiatives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience in a regulatory or legal setting.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
EDUCATION:
- Degree in Business Administration with accounting specialization and several years of experience in an audit environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
