Be part of the team to support a successful transition from the current M&W plant in downtown Denver to the new State-of-the-Art Facility, High Point. High Point will be PepsiCo’s largest and most sustainable plant and will serve as a model for future operations. This role is responsible for people and team development, motivating the team and ensuring quality performance. Responsibilities include cost efficiency, continuous improvement on processes, service, and safety for an entire business unit across all shifts.
The Automation Controls Engineer Leader is responsible for the sustained optimum performance of the automated systems pertaining to the Packaging and Warehouse and Logistics areas at the High Point facility in Denver, CO.
The main objective of this role is to improve automated systems and machines’ efficiency, reliability, and safety by working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), motor drives, and other configurable electronics. The Automation Controls Engineer analyzes system requirements, troubleshoots issues, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and continuously enhances control systems to meet performance objectives and industry standards.
The Automation Controls Engineer will lead a team of controls technicians to provide 24/7 support to production and work on multiple automation projects.

Responsibilities:

  • AGV/ASRS Controls Systems: The Automation Controls Engineer will be highly technically skilled working with controllers for the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) and Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems at the new High Point facility in Denver, CO. The Engineer will be responsible for the installation, repair, diagnostics, and improvements to industrial controls software and hardware for these machines. The AGV system relies on Windows-based controllers.
  • Lines Controls: The Automation Controls Engineer will be highly technically skilled working with controllers for the Packaging Lines. The Engineer will be responsible for the installation, repair, diagnostics, and improvements to industrial controls software and hardware for the packaging lines. Lines controllers include Rockwell, Siemens, and B&R.
  • HMI / SCADA Improvements: Design and develop user-friendly interfaces for controlling and monitoring automated equipment. Conduct usability tests to gather feedback and improve functionality. Configure HMI software to ensure proper functionality and user experience. Troubleshoot and debug HMI-related issues.
  • Control Software Backups: Develop and maintain a comprehensive repository to store and manage all software backups within the facility. Develop a state-of-the art repository and backup strategy that ensures total reliability and zero downtime caused by software synchronicity issues.
  • Controls Laboratory Owner: Design, scope, build, and maintain a controls laboratory within the facility. Build the infrastructure needed to make the process of configuring, calibrating, and troubleshooting control devices as efficient as possible.
  • Obsolescence Mitigation: Map product lifecycle and obsolescence of all automation and controls-related assets within the facility. Develop a mitigation strategy to anticipate obsolescence and remediate.

SOFT SKILLS

  • Ability to consolidate and communicate complex technical concepts to management.
  • Ability to stay focused and agile to solve technical issues under stress.
  • Demonstrate leadership through expertise and ownership of your area.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • 2 – 4 years of experience in industrial automation or a related field.
  • Technical proficiency working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), motor drives, and configurable electronics. Hands-on experience with Rockwell, Siemens, and Beckhoff controllers preferred.
  • Strong cause-effect analytical abilities to solve problems.
