Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified professionals for our Automation Fleet Engineer opportunity supporting the Crossett, AR Consumer Products manufacturing operation.
The Automation Engineer will participate in the identification, selection, development, and implementation of new technologies for the next generation of fully automated manufacturing assets. Develop and maintain a summary of technologies and trends relevant to automation machinery. Define potential new technologies and participate in their development from proof-of-concept to execution. Support the Automation Platform with IP strategies, invention disclosures and patent applications for relevant technologies and their use across the Enterprise.
The primary responsibility of this position is to improve the manufacturing processes in the operations areas of the mill. The ideal candidate will possess economic thinking skills with ability to deliver innovative solutions that provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace; have demonstrated the ability to act as an entrepreneur to effectively use critical thinking and judge appropriate risks to deliver maximum value to the company; and have a passion for innovation that applies analytical thinking skills to develop links between commercially available technology and the application of that technology to manufacturing operations.

WHO YOU ARE (BASIC QUALIFICATIONS)

  • 2-year technical degree or higher with two (2) or more years of experience working in an electrically or mechanically focused role within a manufacturing organization. OR three (3) years of experience working with automated fleet vehicles in a manufacturing operation

OR a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering with experience working on automation or automated guided vehicles.

  • Hands on experience with automation robotics.
  • Leadership of a multi craft team to execute projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute GP’s reliability and asset strategy.
  • Analyze manufacturing process flows for the enhancements of safety, quality, cost reduction, and throughput through automation.
  • Provide technical expertise and transfer the knowledge to others (operations and maintenance).
  • Work closely with other team members to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
  • Work with support personnel resolving short term reliability issues related to automated equipment.
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes for enhancements, equipment improvements, new products, and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost.
  • Capability to develop, manage, and execute projects.
  • Provide engineering support in operations area to troubleshoot, resolve technical problems, and identify root cause analysis of automated equipment.
  • Take complete ownership of assigned workload and follow through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Responsible for Crossett’s transition to competitive levels of automation across the facility. Initial focus will be movement of raw materials and finished product in the retail department of the mill. Provide oversight around processes to sustain reliable operations of the technology.
  • Consult with and travel to other facilities to problem solve, collaborate on automation technology, and support the needs of the automation platform outside of Crossett.
