KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in automated manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related fields.
  • 0 to 2 years of automation engineering experience.
  • PLC/Robotics:
  • Experience in some form of robotics, ABB Robotics experience a plus.
  • Teaching/modifying robot position points and motion profiles/speeds between points in existing programs.
  • Teaching robots or programming new programs for new parts or processes.
  • Experience using ladder logic programming to accomplish varying tasks within a PLC system.
  • Experience using code to manipulate and check IO signals to accomplish tasks within an automated system.
  • Troubleshooting:
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical/mechanical, pneumatic systems to find and correct errors and failures.
  • Skills using a Digital multimeter to test for voltage/continuity/resistance.
  • Ability to use scientific method to find the root cause of complex problems.
  • Electrical Experience:
  • Experience with 24VDC PLC and IO systems and common practice.
  • Ability to accurately follow schematics to wire systems into PLC terminal strips and sensors/other equipment.
  • Familiarity with common practices of wiring, cable glands, crimping, soldering, types of cable.
  • Knowledge of how Inputs and Outputs are physically connected into a PLC or robot controller.
  • Knowledge of different types of discrete vs analog sensors.
  • Understanding of servo motors/encoders and how they track motor positions, for both new installations and maintenance of current systems.
  • CAD/Design:
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar.
  • Understanding of machining tolerances a plus.
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment with knowledge of what common machines are capable of is a plus.
  • Experience with compression molding and related processes is a plus.
  • Experience in the Lean production principles and tools is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. English mandatory, French is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Creative thinking skills.
  • Experience with project management is a plus.
  • A desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with different deadlines at the same time.
