Your Areas of Knowledge & Expertise (job qualifications)

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Science, or related field.
  • 12 years’ or more of combined experience in IT systems administration, cloud computing, network administration or IT security.
  • Demonstrate initiative to design, implement, maintain and support Azure solutions in response to customer requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical content to broad audiences.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a high-risk public trust clearance
  • Standard work schedule with the ability to be on call when there’s an urgent nee

Experience or familiarity with:

  • Federal ATO (Authority to Operate) requirements and processes
  • Windows and Linux Virtual Machines
  • Deploying, configuring, securing and managing Azure PaaS based resources (e.g. App Services, Azure SQL, Storage Accounts, Functions)
  • Azure Virtual Networks and Network Security Groups
  • Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
  • Azure PaaS or NVA based Firewalls
  • Azure or other cloud based security and monitoring tools (e.g. Microsoft Defender)
  • Azure web application resources (e.g. Azure Application Gateway, Azure App Services

Desired Skills (nice to have)

  • Configuring Azure Virtual Machines and PaaS resources to meet security compliance standards (i.e. NIST 800-53, CIS, DISA STIGs)
  • Expert knowledge and experience with Azure infrastructure for government projects and be able to design and implement solutions within the constraints of the client security requirements.
  • Azure Networking with Express Route
  • Infrastructure as Code (i.e. Terraform, Bicep)
  • Log Management, configuration and monitoring with Azure Log Analytics and Sentinel
  • Azure DevOps Code Repositories and deployment pipelines
  • Certificate Management with Azure Key Vault
  • Containerized Application Solutions (i.e. Docker, Azrue Container Registries)
  • Azure Cloud migrations (e.g. from On-Premise to Azure or Azure subscription or tenant migrations)
  • Prioritizing and communicating requirements and system development activities.
  • Communicating impact of requirement changes on active development activities

Responsibilities:

  • Act as technical lead and primary engineer for the program’s Azure environment
  • Work directly with the customer and broader technical team to design and implement Azure solutions based on functional requirements within security and technical constraints.
  • Contribute to the prioritization and refinement of functional requirements and document solution designs
  • Deploy and configure Azure PaaS resources to support public websites in collaboration with application developers
  • Deploy and configure Azure PaaS resources to support the program’s data ETL, management and analysis efforts, in collaboration with SQL developers and data analysts
  • Configure Virtual Machines and cloud based firewalls and act as system administrator for these resources
  • Update Azure resource configurations to meet new or existing security requirements
  • Use Azure tools and subject matter expertise to respond to security and compliance requests, including creating technical documentation to support security audits required by the program’s ATO
  • Monitor the Azure environment using available tools including Microsoft Defender and Sentinel
  • Collaborate with the parent IT organization on system dependencies & outages
  • Perform system administration tasks including granting user access to Azure resources in accordance with the program’s RBAC policies
