Join us as a Baggage Asset Systems Engineer and support the development, management and delivery of asset strategy, to support continuous improvement across our airport wide baggage system. As a Baggage Asset Systems Engineer you will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure across Heathrow’s Baggage Systems. This role will be responsible for the management of specific baggage systems and assets through their whole life cycle. This will be achieved by providing technical and performance expertise in order to drive improved standards and continuous improvements in cost, quality, performance and safety in line with an integrated asset management plan.

  • Assessing the condition and performance of the airport wide baggage system. Monitoring the delivery quality of our providers and providing challenge when required to protect the long-term interests of the business.
  • Developing and managing whole life asset management plans for the relevant systems and equipment. This will include identification of major risks or events and their effect.
  • Developing and implementing obsolescence and replacement strategies for the systems, which will cover mechanical, electrical, electronic, control and software systems, to ensure the performance to cost throughout the life of the asset.
  • Strategy development for both sustainability and energy reduction are key to the role, in addition to the ability to reduce the cost of asset utilisation and risk management.
  • Truly understand system performance; reducing potential bottlenecks, identifying possible solutions, and working with our partners to implement rectification.
  • Liaising with partners and other personnel for problem resolutions and technology procurement.
  • Analysing multiple data sources to identify areas and opportunities for continuous improvements in performance, cost, quality, availability and safety.
  • A relevant engineering-based qualification equivalent to NVQ Level 3 with demonstrable experience in an Engineering or maintenance environment.
  • Broad knowledge and experience of implementing best practice in the maintenance and operation of plant, systems and infrastructure assets.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and documentation, including drawings.
  • Proven ability to lead challenging discussions with stakeholders (internal and external) around the need for change and accountability.
  • Knowledge of automated systems and their controls together with detailed working knowledge of mechanical/ electrical systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability to use data and judgement effectively in order to drive continuous improvements in asset performance and develop robust solutions to business problems.
