Description:

Based at the Royal Free Hospital Site.
To provide a ward medicines management pharmacy technician service. This will include the safe, appropriate and timely supply of medicines for patients, supply and review of ward stock and counselling for discharge.
The postholder will provide Chemocare (electronic chemotherapy prescribing system) assistance with the safe input and update of chemotherapy regimens, and the production of reports on systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) usage and prescribing information to managers and clinicians.
This post will work with the pharmacist team and get accredited to clinically verify SACT according to BOPA Level 2a simple SACT prescriptions as defined and agreed by local SACT governance processes and policy – excluding cycle 1

Responsibilities:

To deliver an efficient ward-based technical pharmacy service to patients to ensure the accurate and timely supply of medicines. This service will include:
assessment of patient’s own drugs
accurate medicines history taking
ensuring prescription charts are complete including allergy information
liaising with the ward pharmacist to ensure all prescriptions are clinically optimised, raising awareness of prescription changes and reconciliation concerns
timely ordering and supply of medicines for patients
Provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical advice and information to health care professionals. To refer any queries beyond their competence to the ward pharmacist.
To communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team on a range of medicine-related issues.
To contribute, where required, to the provision of a pharmacy top-up service to specific wards or clinics as required.
To ensure that stock is stored appropriately and educate nursing staff on correct storage of medicines.
To lead on drug recalls and drug shortages within cancer services, sourcing and advising on alternatives where necessary.
To conduct Medicines Management Audits as necessary.
To be accredited to clinically verify SACT according to BOPA Level 2a: Registered Pharmacy Professionals who can validate simple SACT prescriptions as defined and agreed by local SACT governance processes and policy – excluding cycle 1
