Description:

The Mental Health Control Room Triage Service are looking for a new full time team member to come and join the team, based at the Wiltshire Police control room in Devizes.
We are a small and friendly team of Mental Health Professionals, we support each other and we pride ourselves on the good working relationships we have built with our Wiltshire Police colleagues.
If you are enthusiastic and looking for a challenging, different, yet rewarding role? This could be the job for you…
Unlike many other nursing roles, this team doesn’t hold a caseload, they work with the ‘here and now’ by helping support Police officers and staff deal with any mental health related jobs that come in.
Mental Health demand continues to increase in all areas; part of our role is to try and relieve that mental health demand pressure for the Police.
This role is fast paced and whilst working autonomously, requires the new team member to be confident in making good, concise and quick decisions, mainly based around clinical risk. Therefore a background in Crisis work would be strongly desirable, although not essential.
We have a good induction process to the role which enables the new team member to get to know the other team members and build those relationships, whilst learning the role.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate, you’d be supporting both our Wiltshire Police and Avon & Wiltshire MH Partnership NHS Trust colleagues. We are the ‘bridge’ that goes between the two agencies and we strive to make sure that those care pathways are as seamless as possible.
Being a good communicator is essential, we work closely with other third sector agencies and primary care as well, ensuring that the person gets the most appropriate outcome for them.
You will be able to make a positive impact on the outcomes for people with mental health needs who come into contact with the Police.
The Post holder will work autonomously on a day-to-day basis within the control centre environment. This is a purely control room based model of working.
The team work a 24/7 shift pattern, the new post holder will be working within that so can expect to work all types of shifts, typically Early shifts, late shifts and night shifts, this will also include weekends and bank holidays. Due to the size of the team, and the way we work, this is non-negotiable due to needing to provide that 24/7 service.
We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.
We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.
Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.
At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
Locally to the team, The Mental Health Control Room Triage Team is based at Wiltshire Police HQ, the facilities on site for staff are good.
For example, there is free parking, there is a canteen, rest rooms and kitchen areas as well. The Team feel welcome and safe on site, plus it’s interesting working within that non-clinical environment.
You must be able to demonstrate confidence in your clinical risk assessment skills and will need provide evidence of continual professional development.
This role involves working on two different computer systems, which sounds more daunting than it is, however good and confident IT skills are strongly desirable.
You must be an excellent communicator, both verbally and in your written work.
You must hold a professional registration specialising in Mental Health (e.g. RMN or MH Social worker), and be able to evidence substantial post registration experience at Band 5 or above.
You must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the relevant legislation in terms of the Mental Health Act, particularly the parts that are frequently heard of within this role (e.g. Section 136, Section 135)
The service operates 24hrs and day, 7 days a week, therefore the new team member will be expected to work shifts, which will include some bank holidays, unsocial hours and night shifts.
Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will need to pass Police Vetting as part of the employment process
