Description:

Are you looking for an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, passionate and supportive team, where you can use your skills to support Veterans? Would you like to join our expanding and evolving Op Courage Integrated Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service to provide high intensity evidence-based psychological interventions? Are you a practitioner psychologist/psychological therapist with trauma experience?
Op Courage SW works with Dorset NHSFT, Walking with the Wounded and Combat Stress to enhance and not replace existing services to meet the needs of UK Veterans in the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Swindon, Wiltshire and Dorset.
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated psychologist/psychological therapist with trauma experience to provide CBT and/or EMDR, for complex presentations (Step 3 and above). The successful applicant will provide f2f therapy in an AWP, NHS site or other community setting in the Wiltshire and Dorset area. Psychological therapy will also be offered to Veterans in our wider geographical area, via an online platform and offers the opportunity for hybrid working. Travel is required to meet the needs of the service and will be factored into your job plan.
Interview date to be 20th June 2024
The successful applicant will provide specialist assessments, formulations and evidence-based psychological interventions, following NICE guidance, to include but not limited to CBT, Trauma Focused-CBT and/or EMDR.
Where appropriate, you will be involved in consultation and liaison with multidisciplinary mental health staff, third-sector agencies and other, non-professional carers. You will contribute to the clinical supervision of other professionals, who may include less experienced therapists, assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists. There will be opportunities to participate in team development days, audits, service evaluation/improvements, research, the development and provision of training to the team or group work to Veterans and other CPD opportunities.
As a formulation driven team, members work collaboratively in group formulation to develop complex case conceptualisations. We are a research-informed and Veteran invested service, and seek opportunities to share our learning across other specialist Veteran teams.
If you have the experience and a passion to work with Veterans, then this is the role for you.
We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care. We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.
Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.
At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.

IN SUMMARY, THE POST HOLDER WILL:

  • Provide specialist comprehensive assessments, formulation and evidence-based psychological interventions following NICE guidance
  • Consultation and liaison with the MDT, third-sector agencies and other non-professionals
  • Provide clinical supervision to other professionals, where appropriate
  • Contribute to complex case formulations
  • Have opportunities to develop, participate in team development days or group work with Veterans
  • Have access to reflective practice and other group thinking spaces
  • Support the provision of training to the team and development of groups
  • Contribute to audits, service evaluation/improvements
  • Have an interest in Veteran research and contribute to knowledge in this area
Previous military experience or working with the military community is not essential, but an understanding of the issues facing the Veteran community is beneficial.
Please refer to the job description and key local information attached for further details.
    Hours
The service operates from 08:00-18:00 Monday to Sunday. Flexible working can be considered, with appropriate agreement and lone working procedures in place. This post is 22.5 hours per week, days by agreement; weekend working is not a requirement.
    Travel
The post holder may be required to travel to meet the needs of the veteran community; this may include establishing regular clinics in a number of locations and travel between them. This is all factored in job plans.
However, we are successfully using an online platform for the delivery of interventions, except where clinical needs dictates, thereby minimising travel. On occasion, travel for training and meetings is required, as this provides a great opportunity for mutual support, networking and social events. Microsoft Teams is being used in the Trust to support those working across our large region, and provides an excellent way to stay in contact with managers, supervisors and participation in meetings
