Job Summary
The post holder will work as part of a team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care environment for patients, relatives and carers. They will be responsible under the direction of the registered nurse for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. They are expected to be able to demonstrate procedures and work without direct supervision once the department specific key learning outcomes are completed.

Clinical
Carry out a full range of delegated duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s condition and care with support from the registered nurse.
To work within the scope of practice of the nursing associate role to understand the level of complexity of patient care to be undertaken.
Maintain the privacy and dignity of all patients whilst adhering to Trust and department policies, reporting any concerns to a registered nurse.
Work without direct supervision once key learning outcomes of the induction or preceptorship programme have been completed.
Provide and monitor care for patients, maintaining high standards at all times.
Prioritise nursing care and recognise deterioration in a patient’s condition and alert senior staff immediately.
Aware of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act reporting via the appropriate system any faulty or damaged equipment or practices in the ward or department that could be detrimental to the health and safety of patients and staff.
Potential hazards in the workplace are recognised and dealt with within own capability or reported promptly as appropriate.
Occasional exposure to distressing circumstances; such as care of acute patients, supporting relatives and be involved with the care of critically ill patient.
Occasional exposure highly unpleasant conditions such as exposure to body fluids and wounds.
Maintain accurate, legible and timely written and electronic records of care.
Use effective communication, written and verbal with all levels of staff including the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.
Will communicate a range of sensitive information; understand how to manage barriers to communicate in relation to providing information to patients and relatives.
Occasionally required to use moderate physical activity for several short periods; such as moving patients and lifting equipment.
Contribute to integrated care fostering good relationships with other departments, multidisciplinary teams and visitors to the department.
Adhere to policies and procedures applicable to department and role, and promote by example a high standard of quality nursing care in the department.
Promoting health and preventing ill health through participation with health education and explanation of treatment to patients and relatives
