JOB SUMMARY

Old National’s Legal and Government Relations Department is seeking an attorney with strong academic credentials and professional experience capable of providing legal advice to our Commercial and Community lines of business, in addition to its Credit department.
This role would have a broad practice range within the Bank but will focus on supporting the making of commercial and consumer loans, the collection of commercial and consumer loans, and various commercial and consumer deposit product offerings. This role would also coordinate with other members of our Legal team to provide advice and guidance on a variety of other general banking matters.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 or more years of experience working in a legal department of medium or large bank or financial institution. If experience is in private law setting, 2 or more years of experience with a major law firm and substantive experience with financial institutions.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience practicing law
  • Admitted and in good standing in the bar of at least one of the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin. Preference will be given for the candidate to work in our Chicago, IL or Evansville, IN offices.
  • Ability to apply sound and practical business judgment to legal matters
  • Ability to consult with and advise management at all levels
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of commercial and consumer loan documentation, including lien perfection, third party agreements, due diligence, and title insurance.
  • Knowledge of commercial and consumer work-out and collection process.
  • Understanding of deposit account and treasury management rules, agreements, and issues.
  • Knowledge of general banking laws and regulations.
  • Ability to find efficiencies through form agreements and processes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate legal advice and engage with lines of business consistent with the Bank’s culture and business strategy.
  • Serve as a strategic legal partner and advisor to the business teams
  • Coordinate and work on various corporate projects as determined by senior legal leadership

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support for special assets and consumer collections, answering questions, conducting legal research, reviewing loan files, and providing legal advice as-requested. Draft and negotiate documents to support these areas as-needed.
  • Provide legal support for consumer and commercial lending teams, including conducting legal research, advising on documentation, procedures, lien perfection, and third party agreements. Work with lending, credit, and documentation teams to suggest loan structures and issue-spot.
  • Provide legal support for retail deposit products and consumer banking matters as-requested.
  • Provide legal support for commercial deposit products as-requested, including treasury management products and deposit account control agreements.
  • Provide legal services and advice on general banking services.
  • Support other areas of the Bank as needed or requested with various lending, loan documentation, collection, work-out, deposit, treasury management and general banking needs.
