POSITION SUMMARY:

Centennial College’s General Ledger’s team is looking for a detailed-oriented, self-starter with strong problem-solving skills to support the College’s banking and payment activities. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the incumbent will prepare bank reconciliations, process vendor payments and student refunds, and perform other day-to-day treasury activities. The role also supports the monthly preparation of financial statements and will act as a back-up for the Senior Banking & General Ledger Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum three (3) year degree in Business, Accounting, or the equivalent education and accounting experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience with bank and/or other payment reconciliations in a complex organization.
  • Intermediate Excel skills with the ability to design and maintain spreadsheets (e.g. Pivot Tables, VLookup, Macros etc.)
  • Experience working with spreadsheet and/or database software (e.g. Access)
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Self-starter with high initiative in delivering results
  • Proven organizational skills to balance the demands and deadlines of the position
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proven high attention to detail and accuracy

Responsibilities:

  • Reconciles bank accounts, ensuring compliance with the College’s policies and best practice
  • Coordinates and transmits electronic payments to vendors and employees
  • Works closely with members of other departments to resolve returned electronic and cheque payments
  • Monitors cash balances and tracks the status of outstanding payments
  • Primary contact for all payment related queries received from banks, vendors and College employees
  • Supports the Senior Banking & General Ledger Officer with day-to-day treasury activities such as cancelling wires/electronic payments or issuing stop payments on cheques
  • Works closely with the Manager, Financial Reporting and Senior Banking & General Ledger Officer to forecast cash flows and prepare cash analysis
  • Prepares journal entries to record wire transfers, bank charges and other cash-related transactions
  • Participates in special projects and performs other related duties as assigned
