The Opportunity
Join the Circular Economy Team in our mission to transform Essex into a Safer, Greener, and Healthier County. We’re dedicated to minimising the impact on the environment by supporting residents to reduce waste and increase the amounts recycled, and by working with others to deliver a more circular economy.
The Behaviour Change Lead role is a new position where you’ll be instrumental in developing and driving the Waste Reduction Behaviour Change programme for recycling and waste. The programme will identify, develop, test and evidence the impact of interventions to support strategic goals and secure future investment.
We are seeking a passionate individual to lead a team and champion engaging and innovative external communications and campaigns that deliver lasting behaviour change.

What will you be doing?
As Behaviour Change Lead, you will play a key role in leading a team working closely with external consultancies, partners and stakeholders to design and deliver activities aimed at assessing feasibility.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing interventions and communications campaigns delivered through the Love Essex and council brands, implementing digital solutions, and co-ordinating service-led activities. Additionally, you will be responsible for evidencing the impact of behavioural change interventions, ensuring that the impact of each intervention is measured, learning is captured and replicable models are documented.
Working closely alongside the Communications Lead to support the delivery of the Waste Reduction Behaviour Change programme ensuring ambitious waste reduction and increased recycling goals are met.

The Experience You Will Bring

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
  • Significant experience of executing successful interventions and external communications/campaigns that drive behavioural change on behalf of a large, complex organisation in-line with brand guidelines.
  • Line management experience with the ability to lead, motivate, support, empower and inspire a high performing team.
  • Experience of using data and insight to design activities, monitor in real time, report on impact and effectiveness and allow for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal writing and presentation skills and an ability to communicate clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences, with experience of reputational management and crisis communications.

Desirable :

  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
  • Experience of working in a political environment, skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives and taking a cross organisational and cross-partner perspective.
  • Experience of leading projects and matrix management.
  • A broad interest and understanding of waste management, environmental issues and wider circular
  • economy issues.
