Description:

The BI Developer will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of business intelligence solutions leveraging a Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance and SSIS. Reporting to the BI Manager and working closely with a Data Analyst. The BI Developer will engage stakeholders across the business the translating business requirements into efficient and reliable technical solutions, ensuring the effective delivery of actionable insights to drive strategic decision-making. They will be responsible for creating and optimising data processes, designing data models, and building scalable BI solutions that allow users to query, analyse and visualize data effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a suite of packages using SSIS to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into Azure SQL Managed Instance, ensuring data quality, integrity, and reliability.
  • Design, develop, and optimize data models and the data warehouse to support business reporting and analytics requirements, utilising best practices for performance and scalability.
  • Support Data Analysts in the creation of interactive and visually compelling reports and dashboards using Power BI to present insights derived from data analysis, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, gather requirements, and translate them into technical specifications for BI solutions.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot BI solutions, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure the availability and reliability of data for decision-making.
  • Stay updated on best practice and emerging trends and technologies in business intelligence and data analytics.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Qualifications

  • Qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields would be desirable.
  • Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure, Power BI, or SQL Server such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate are highly desirable.

Experience

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing BI solutions using the Microsoft BI stack.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes and tools, particularly those native to SSIS.
  • Experience in data modelling, data warehouse design, and optimization, including index management and incremental loading.
  • Previous exposure to agile development methodologies and working with stakeholders.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Azure and services, including Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Coding.
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL processes and data integration. VB or C# experience would be attractive.
  • Working understanding of data warehousing, indexing, logical modelling and querying.
  • Experience of sourcing data from a large variety of origins including APIs, SFTPs, database and file share sources.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of dimensional modelling and data mart design, particularly Kimball principles.
  • Familiarity with data visualization and techniques.
  • Understanding of cloud computing principles and architectures.
