THE POSITION

Washington County’s Department of Assessment and Taxation (A&T) is currently seeking an Accounting Assistant II to join our team!

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for a candidate who enjoys working in customer-facing roles like a cashier or teller. The candidate should have excellent customer service and team skills, be highly organized, able to multitask successfully, possess good math skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and have prior experience in billing, payment processing, and bookkeeping.

BILINGUAL POSITIONS:

Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing are required. If you possess these skills, you are encouraged to apply. An additional $75/per pay period for bilingual skills will be paid to qualified employees. Pay periods are every two weeks.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; AND
  • One (1) year of general clerical experience including some financial record keeping.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Bilingual Accounting Assistant - Tax Division is a working title. This position is classified as an Assessment and Taxation Program Supervisor. To review the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification (position)

This position performs a variety of property tax duties at varying levels of complexity in a fast-paced customer service environment that requires frequent contact with customers by phone, email, and in person at a lobby counter. Primary duties include:

  • Post tax payments daily, with seasonal heavy volume.
  • Provide high volume customer service on the phone and at the front counter.
  • Use specialized tax software to enter, retrieve, and research information.
  • Transfer calls to appropriate subject matter experts in areas such as bankruptcies, foreclosures, delinquent accounts, and non-sufficient fund payments.
  • Assist generally with tax and clerical functions, operate a ten key calculator, use Microsoft Office products, and perform other duties as required.
  • Cross train and assist with the more complex functions in the unit
