Due to the nature of work that Sonic Healthcare UK undertakes, our clients require that Employees filling certain roles, need, as part of their on-boarding to complete a DBS Check. This role falls in to the category of requiring a DBS check (standard)

Responsibilities:

We have an exciting 6 month secondment Head of Department opportunity in Biochemistry at UCLH RRL, we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Biomedical Scientist who is ready to take the next leadership step.
The Head of Biochemistry will be working closely with their Seniors and a highly skilled team of BMS and support staff with responsibility for providing a comprehensive, high quality 24/7 service for UCLH Trust. A key requirement for this role is to meet the daily operational demands of the lab, where the candidate will need excellent interpersonal skills, be highly organised and able to delegate in order to keep operations running efficiently and effectively.
The post holder must use a combination of technical knowledge and skills to ensure that appropriate sample testing are performed safely, accurately and in a timely manner, for every patient and maintain the sites contracted performance for routine and urgent TATs. Broadly, the HOD will be responsible for managing their team in regards to recruitment, monthly returns, rotas, annual leave approval and HR matters, they also maintain the department QMS, EQA schemes, TATs, and KPI reports.
An important aspect of this role is the continual development of training, looking at innovative ways to engage and educate their team. This will involve working closely with the Training Officer to ensure competency and training is maintained to the required standard.
