Description
The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Bioinformatician. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The bioinformatician will implement workflows for multi-omic datasets generated in-house and acquired from public data repositories. The bioinformatician will work closely and collaboratively with other staff and trainees to facilitate informatics needs towards translational medicine goals.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Research Design and Implementation
- Design and implement pipelines for analysis of sequencing datasets, including genomes, transcriptomes, proteomes, and single cell sequencing datasets from both pre-clinical and clinical samples
- Analyze experimental data, summarize and report findings
- Develop bespoke computational workflows and protocols
- Contribute to data assembly and writing of scientific manuscripts and grants
- Presenting research at local, national and international meetings is highly encouraged
Supervision and Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with other staff and trainees within the immunotherapy program to achieve shared goals
- Work collaboratively with multiple PIs and their teams on diverse projects related to their informatics analysis needs towards translational medicine
- Other tasks and responsibilities as they arise
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- MSc or PhD degree Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, or related field required
- Minimum 2-3 years of relevant research experience, including experience in data science, genomics, bioinformatics, or machine learning
- Background in cancer biology is a strong asset
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (such as Python or R)
- Experience with Linux / Unix working environments, and high-performance computing clusters
- Expertise with analysis of complex NGS datasets
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
- Detail oriented, organized, and strong written communication skills as evidenced by a record of publication and scholarship
- Track record of presenting research at local and national meetings
- Demonstrated communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
