Job description:Biological/chemical-technical assistant (m/f/d)
Background
The Section Ecology of Shelf Seas on Helgoland investigates the food webs of the North Sea and their changes as a consequence of global change. On Helgoland we use a variety of experimental and analytical approaches. This work is carried out in close co-operation with national and international projects and requires a high degree of independence, adaptability to difficult conditions and the ability to work in a team in an interdisciplinary environment.

Tasks

  • Maintenance of experimental organisms as well as the aquaculture facilities and equipment
  • Analysis of chemical compositions of sample material
  • Carrying out experiments and measurement campaigns
  • Participation in regional expeditions on the North Sea
  • Central services - management of consumables and chemicals
  • Supervision of students and internsCompliance with quality standards and occupational safety

Requirements

  • Completed training as a BTA/CTA, bio-laboratory technician, chemical laboratory technician or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area
  • Very good written and spoken German and good English skills
  • Experience in the operation of research facilities, aquatic infrastructure and experimental facilities
  • Experience and affinity with analytics and complex equipment

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of marine organisms (plants, fish, invertebrates) husbandry
  • Taxonomic knowledge of marine organisms
  • Knowledge of fishing techniques, sampling, measuring, recording and analysing data
  • Good knowledge of common standard software and basic statistics is an advantage
